Crawley Borough Council is to consider locally listing the town hall.
The suggestion was mentioned at a meeting of the full council. Cllr Ian Irvine (Lab, Broadfield North) said: “It’s quite an important building. When it opened, it was a statement of great optimism for what Crawley might become.” Locally listing a building marks its as holding architectural or historical importance – but does not protect the building in the same way a national listing would do. The last building to be locally listed was Bar Med, which was demolished in 2012.
