Commuters are facing long journeys home on the Brighton mainline this evening (January 2) due to a signalling problem at Gatwick Airport, which is causing delays of up to 60 minutes.
The problems follow disruption at the end of December when planned improvement works to put in a new platform and signalling at Gatwick station over-ran.
There were no direct trains between Gatwick and Victoria until this morning (January 2).
This evening’s disruption has coincided with a train fare rise, with commuters from Haywards Heath now paying more than £4,000 for an annual season ticket.
