Crawley Borough Council and the NHS are discussing proposals to replace a busy GP surgery in Bewbush with a bigger one.
A spokesman for the council said Breezehurst Pavillion could be made into a surgery for five GPs.
The practice would be ‘much larger’ and have three more GPs than the Bewbush Medical Centre near Dorsten Square, Bewbush, it would replace.
The spokesman said: “The council, which owns the pavilion, is considering paying to refurbish the building to make it function as a surgery for five GPs – three more than work at the current Bewbush Medical Centre in Bewbush Place.
“The proposed new practice, which would be let to the NHS, would also accommodate the growing population in neighbouring Kilnwood Vale.”
Cllr Chris Oxlade, Cabinet member for Community Engagement, said the demand for the current surgery was already ‘unmanageable’. He said NHS England’s responses to the council’s proposals to help the town’s GP surgeries had been ‘very positive’ recently.
Breezehurst Pavilion has been empty since Crawley Town FC ended its lease to use the building while training on the adjacent football pitches.
