Hosting Crawley Jobs Fair

I’m hosting my next Crawley Jobs Fair on Friday 19th September at the Civic Hall, and preparations are well underway.

With the economy growing again, local companies want to hire more staff. By attending the Jobs Fair, job seekers get the opportunity to speak directly to some key local and national employers. Admission is of course free, and the Jobs Fair is open from 10am until 3pm.

I know that people are keen to get back into work, and I believe it is my duty as Crawley’s MP to help.

Companies attending include CGG, Millennium Hotels, Transvalair UK and Vent-Axia. Additionally, organisations such as GatwickDiamondJobs.com, who look to match people’s skills with a range of positions available, will also be on hand.

The National Careers Service will be running sessions throughout the day to help attendees improve their chances at interview. The NCS will also be providing assistance with CV writing.

I have posted the link to the website – www.CrawleyJobsFair.co.uk – to Facebook and Twitter, and I would urge people to do the same to raise awareness. Additionally I’ve been going around Crawley, dropping off leaflets to help spread the word.

The Jobs Fair I held last year’s was a great success with over 700 job seekers in attendance.

I have spoken to local business owners who are pleased with what the Government is doing to back employees and employers alike. By slashing red tape costing some £3.3 billion, and introducing the Employment Allowance which cuts the National Insurance bill of every business by £2,000 per year per employee, more businesses in and around Crawley are able to launch, expand and flourish.

In the last year, the rate of unemployment in our town has gone down by over a third. This is a better rate than the South East of England, and the UK as a whole. In the last twelve months, the rate of youth unemployment has almost halved.

At 1.9%, unemployment in Crawley is at a six-year low, and during the first quarter of 2014, almost 200 new businesses were registered here; a record high in our town’s history. However, having been unemployed myself, I know that these figures aren’t of much comfort if you’re looking for work. That is why I am organising my Crawley Jobs Fair.
