A 24-year-old man was racially abused as he sat in a parked car in Ifield Parade, Ifield, Crawley.
The victim was in the driver’s seat of a silver VW Golf on January 10 waiting for his friend who had just gone into a shop at around 5.10pm when a man started to shout racial obscenities at him.
When the victim’s friend returned to the car they drove off and reported the incident to police. An area search was conducted but the suspect was no where to be found.
PC Emily Kemp from Crawley Response and Investigation Team said: “This was a very distressing experience for the victim who had endured a torrent of racial abuse and we are very keen to trace the man responsible.
“The incident took place at a busy time of day so we are hoping someone on the parade witnessed it. If you have any information that could help police with their inquiries please call 101 quoting serial 1139 of 10/01 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The suspect is described as white, 6’, 25 to 35, of slim build, with a shaven head and was wearing a black and white chequered jacket, blue jeans and white trainers. He was holding a carrier bag in his left hand.
