If you have ever heard Handel’s Messiah you will know it contains wonderful uplifting music as evidenced by such pieces as ‘For unto us a Child is Born’ and the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’.
It is very difficult not to be moved by such inspiring music and I was certainly moved when I attended The Weald Choir’s performance of Messiah. There was music of other kinds earlier in the week. The West Sussex Heat of Rock Challenge 2014 took place. This event is part of an international anti-drug and crime prevention initiative.
At the event secondary school pupils performed contemporary dance pieces to reflect challenging issues from stories and past events.
The winning school will be performing in Portsmouth Guildhall in June.
So well done St Paul’s Catholic College, Burgess Hill who will be the West Sussex representatives in the final.
Best wishes to them.
Young people from my charity, Outreach3Way, hold regular disco events at the Hawth Studio. It was a pleasure to attend to hear the DJs delivering their sets of upbeat and lively music and also good to hear the live group ‘The Coasters’.
What these people often achieve is inspirational.
Mention of inspiration brings me to a very special dog called Belle. You may have seen Belle around the town with her owner, Caroline.
Belle is a dog that works for ‘Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’.
We saw something of the dog’s skills at a presentation at Siemens and she stole the show. What is it they say about not working with animals?
The final event I want to mention is the Crawley and Gatwick Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast.
At it we heard wsomething of the work that different companies do.
The event was held at Basepoint Business Centre and the Bacon rolls along with the cakes it is fair to say it was a breakfast to die for!
Human Trafficking is an abhorrent practise. I heard something of what goes on at a conference. We heard harrowing tales of children being trafficked for their organs as well as adults being trafficked to be used and abused in the sex trade. I
t was a difficult listen but the groups and organisations including the police and border agencies should be applauded for the work they are doing to stamp to this trade. They very much deserve our support.
