Missed opportunity to debate on Europe

Last weeks European debate showed that no matter how many times Nick Clegg was asked a simple question on immigration he refused to answer on numerous occasions.

A YouGov poll conducted within minutes of the debate ending found that 57% of the people surveyed thought that Nigel Farage ‘performed best overall’ in the debate compared to 36% for Nick Clegg.

As you delve deeper into the results what is actually surprising is the fact that 42% of those who’s intention was to vote Labour, thought that Nigel Farage performed better overall.

I suppose that this figure could be connected to the fact that UKIP takes votes from all angles of the political spectrum and the persistent myth that we just take votes from disgruntled Conservatives is simply not true.

It is evident in Crawley and in fact the whole of the UK that we actually take votes from Labour and those that have never voted or are fed up with the main three parties.

The next debate due to be aired today (2nd April) on BBC2 at 7pm will be even more interesting to see how Nick Clegg plays this one and if he can actually answer the questions honestly.

I think that David Cameron and Ed Miliband missed a perfect opportunity to debate Europe. After all, if David Cameron is so keen for you to have a say then why run scared from a debate?
